Mary Tyler Moore’s Greenwich Estate Sold for $16.9 Million

The estate belonging to the late television star Mary Tyler Moore, located in Greenwich, Connecticut, has been sold after approximately one and a half years on the market. Originally listed in September 2023 for $22 million, the property was ultimately purchased for $16.9 million.

Details of the Sale

The buyer was represented by real estate agents Helene Barre and Fran Ehrlich from Sotheby’s International Realty–Greenwich Brokerage. The seller, Dr. S. Robert Levine, Moore’s husband, was assisted by Joseph Barbieri from the same brokerage. Following the sale, Barbieri remarked, “It was an honor to represent this remarkable property, once home to a beloved TV icon. I am pleased with the successful outcome of the sale.”

Property Overview

This Georgian Colonial home, which the couple acquired in 2006 for around $10 million, boasts spacious accommodations, including:

  • Five bedrooms
  • Nine bathrooms
  • Approximately 14,000 square feet of interior space
  • Nestled on seven acres of beautifully manicured land

Despite being built over a century ago, the estate was significantly renovated under the guidance of architect Stephen Wang. Highlights of the home include:

  • A stunning double-height solarium featuring stained glass inserts sourced from churches and synagogues
  • A laundry room equipped with a dog shower and grooming station
  • A well-equipped gym and spa

Amenities and Surroundings

The property is further enhanced with luxurious details, such as:

  • A foyer with harlequin-patterned floors
  • A wood-paneled billiards room
  • A library with built-in shelving
  • A primary suite stretching across 2,000 square feet, complete with dual bathrooms and walk-in closets

Outside, the scenic landscape includes a guest apartment above the three-car garage, a 65-foot swimming pool with its own fireplace, a tranquil pond, and five acres designated as conservation land—all designed by landscape architect Janice Parker.

Legacy of Mary Tyler Moore

Mary Tyler Moore, renowned for her iconic roles on television, passed away in 2017 at the age of 80 due to complications from pneumonia, as reported by The New York Times. She and Dr. Levine were married in 1983, frequently dividing their time between Greenwich and New York City. In an interview with The Wall Street Journal regarding the estate sale, Levine noted the move was part of his healing process, adding that a portion of the proceeds would support the Mary Tyler Moore Vision Initiative, which aims to advance research dedicated to restoring and preserving vision in individuals affected by diabetes.
