Brooklyn Flea Secures Long-Term Future in Dumbo
The Brooklyn Flea, celebrated for its vibrant atmosphere and diverse offerings, will remain a key attraction in Dumbo, New York City. The flea market, which operates beneath the iconic Manhattan Bridge, has recently confirmed its continuation at Dumbo Archway Plaza following a new long-term concession agreement.
Details of the Agreement
As reported by the New York Business Journal, the agreement ensures that the Brooklyn Flea will maintain its approximately 4,000-square-foot space at the plaza until 2027. The market has been serving the community on weekends since 2016, attracting crowds that benefit both the flea and local businesses.
A Hub for Local Vendors
The Dumbo Flea boasts around 20 vintage vendors, which include a variety of small businesses such as:
- Thea Grant – jeweler
- StephanieVCreations – home decorator
- Mad Good Vintage – vintage clothing
According to Alexandria Sica, president of the Dumbo Improvement District, the weekends when the flea market is in operation are often the most lucrative shopping days for nearby merchants.
Visitor Engagement
The Brooklyn Flea attracts between 3,000 and 5,000 visitors each day. This influx supports not only the vendors present at the market but also enhances the experience for visitors exploring the local area, further contributing to Dumbo’s reputation as a vibrant neighborhood.
Local Economic Impact
In addition to its unique vendor lineup, the Brooklyn Flea also operates the Chelsea Flea market. The organization provides a platform for independent artisans, vintage vendors, and emerging entrepreneurs, as noted by CEO Gaston Becherano, who stated, “By providing a platform for independent artisans, vintage curators, and emerging entrepreneurs, we’re proud to support small businesses and contribute to the cultural and economic heartbeat of Brooklyn.”
Community Collaboration
The Dumbo Flea market is managed by the Dumbo Improvement District and falls under the New York City Department of Transportation’s Plaza Program. This collaborative effort aids in the maintenance and operational support of the market.
